How Municipal Court Warrants Work
Each Ellis County city court handles its own traffic, parking, ordinance, and other Class C cases. Miss a court date or leave a judgment unpaid and the judge can issue an alias warrant, bench process, arrest warrant, or capias pro fine, depending on the case. The municipal judge keeps that warrant record and controls payment, resets, bond, and recall. A city warrant may never surface through county channels. The sheriff's site and a neighboring city's portal are not complete municipal searches. Start instead with the court named on the citation. Ask that clerk which identifier the office needs, since Ellis County courts each run their own system. The citation itself names the right door.
Waxahachie's City Marshal Is the Municipal-Warrant Contact
Waxahachie routes outstanding-warrant questions to its City Marshal at 469-309-4075. The court's own line is 469-309-4070. That court hears city Class C cases and posts its payment, bond, and plea steps. Pay in full and it counts as a no-contest plea and conviction. Plead not guilty after a warrant, though, and you may need bond plus a new court date. The Marshal's published duties cover court orders, payment plans, and warrant audits. That is a city route, separate from the Ellis County Sheriff's Warrants Division. Ask the Waxahachie court directly what payment or an appearance does to the warrant and the case, since Ellis County's city courts each set their own terms.
Municipal Courts Across Ellis County
Each of Ellis County's five largest city courts lists its own contacts. Your ticket names the court to call. Population tells you nothing about warrant counts. Before you pay or visit, call in case a current notice moved the location or changed the hours.
| City | Court Contact | Local Case Scope | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waxahachie | Municipal Court / City Marshal | City traffic, parking, ordinance, Class C | 469-309-4070 / 4075 |
| Midlothian | Municipal Court | City Class C citations | 972-775-8932 |
| Ennis | Municipal Court | City Class C citations | 972-875-4457 |
| Red Oak | Municipal Court / Marshal | City court matters | 469-218-7700 / 7709 |
| Glenn Heights | Municipal Court | Fine-only traffic, ordinance, animal matters | 972-223-1690 ext. 275 |
These contacts come from city pages and can shift. Confirm current details with each Ellis County court before travelling.
Midlothian's Payment Cutoff Can Leave a Warrant Open Overnight
Midlothian posts a processing rule worth knowing. Pay a warrant after 2 p.m. and it posts the next business day, leaving arrest risk overnight anywhere in Ellis County. The court takes payment in person, by mail, at a courthouse Dropbox, and online for eligible cases, while phone payments are not allowed. The page also gives entry tips for citations with an E prefix or a TX prefix. Keep the receipt. Then call the court if the portal still shows a balance, and ask when clearance was sent and what proof it can give. That cutoff is Midlothian's, not Ellis County's. The Midlothian payment page states that cutoff.

For a Midlothian case, use the city source and confirm the current balance with Ellis County court staff.
Ellis County Municipal Warrant Checks
Ask the city court or clerk first. If the court offers an official citation portal, use that. Waxahachie and Red Oak run Tyler portals with citation, license, plate, name, and business searches. Ennis links a city payment portal instead. Glenn Heights posts a municipal-court contact form rather than a warrant search. Midlothian offers online payment and warns about processing time. A blank screen proves little, though. A warrant can exist without showing online, so call the city court or marshal next. For a police record or service question, use that police department's own number. The Ellis County sheriff's Warrants Division is a separate route. Its county page does not promise a complete list of city capias records, so Ellis County city warrants stay with the cities.
Red Oak Encourages Voluntary Appearance and Receipt-Keeping
Red Oak's court brochure invites people to come in voluntarily and talk with the marshal. Payment plans go through the marshal too. The court asks everyone to keep a payment receipt. After payment, clearance goes to dispatch, while payments after 5 p.m. or on weekends may not clear until the next business day. That is Red Oak's procedure. It is not a no-arrest promise from the Ellis County Sheriff or another Ellis County city court. To confirm the current route, call the Red Oak court at 469-218-7700. The marshal answers at 469-218-7709.
Municipal Warrants: What They Show
A city court record can tie together the citation number, offense, court, date, amount due, warrant type, and any payment or clearance entry. The portal may show only the citation and balance. Ellis County city courts share no warrant-number pattern. Use the number printed on the citation itself.
| Citation number | City identifier used to find the municipal case. |
|---|---|
| Court | The municipal court whose judge issued the process. |
| Offense | Traffic, parking, ordinance, or other fine-only matter. |
| Warrant label | Alias, FTA, arrest warrant, or capias term used by that court. |
| Amount and date | Balance, fees, payment, service, or update date; confirm current totals. |
| Clearance | Recall or dispatch update after court action, which can be delayed. |
If the payment portal shows no status, ask the clerk which office can confirm the warrant itself. Ellis County city courts each know their own records.
Ennis Alias and Capias Terms Are Local Clues
Ennis uses two local warrant terms. An alias warrant follows a case with no plea, or a not-guilty plea. A capias warrant comes after a plea plus a failed court agreement. The court confirms which term fits a case. Ways out include full payment, time served, a combination, or a payment plan. The Ennis Detention Center at 1700 Lake Bardwell operates 24 hours. Ellis County Jail is separate, at 300 S. Jackson, with its own custody contact. The municipal case itself belongs to the court at 107 N. Sherman. That makes it a court record, not a jail record. The Ennis Municipal Court directory posts the court's contact details and its jurisdiction.

Check the city's current court notice because its service location can change.
Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant
Ask the clerk what the city court allows. Options can include payment, an installment plan, a new setting, bond, or a hardship hearing. A lawyer can also arrange an appearance. Glenn Heights runs a time-limited amnesty window. Waxahachie and Midlothian publish their own fees and payment terms. In some Ellis County courts a full payment counts as a plea, so understand that effect before you pay.
After payment or appearance, ask the court when it recalls the warrant and sends notice to dispatch. Keep the receipt and request written confirmation of the next case date.
If the court denies an online request or form, call the clerk. A contact form does not change a scheduled setting by itself. An online receipt can arrive before the Ellis County agency updates the warrant status.
Glenn Heights Program Has a September 30 Deadline
The Glenn Heights Municipal Court in Ellis County lists a program running August 1 through September 30, 2026. The window is short. Eligible warrant fees are waived if the balance is paid in full or an arrangement begins. Voluntary resolution can happen at that court in a no-arrest safe zone. Remember, this is a city program. It is not an Ellis County amnesty, and the end date is firm. Confirm your eligibility first. Ask the court about payment terms and whether the window has been extended. A fee waiver does not dismiss a citation or prove a warrant was recalled. The city's current notice controls.
